Newport News office of our client seeks wills, trust, estate and elder law associate attorney with 5+ years of experience drafting estate documents, advising on distribution issues, and advising clients on wills, trusts, estates and elder law to include Social Security, Medicare and Veterans Administration issues. The candidate will work closely with Partners in the product liability division on a regular basis providing updates and seeking guidance as needed with occasional projects from other attorneys as requested. Will resolve estate planning and distribution issues for a large, geriatric clientele currently represented by the product liability division, with the future potential of developing the attorney?s own independent clientele. Draft and edit estate planning documents. Advise clients on estate planning and elder law matters to include Medicare, Social Security and Veterans Administration issues. Counsel clients who are acting as personal representatives in their duties and responsibilities. Attend distribution hearings in wrongful death and survival cases, as necessary. Assist with locating potential beneficiaries and determining which beneficiaries qualify for various claims under the Virginia wrongful death statute, Virginia survival statute, and maritime wrongful death and survival law. Work with the settlement division to ensure settlements are disbursed properly and in a timely manner. Assist and support the products liability division team in large and complex cases. Develop and execute effective strategies appropriately. Ensure the successful meeting of all deadlines while managing several projects simultaneously. Assist with other duties as requested. Should be Virginia-Bar certified Associate. Must be an active member in good standing of the Virginia Bar. Extensive knowledge of estate planning and administration of Social Security, Medicare and other elder law subject matter is required.
