Supervising Attorney The candidate will supervise the management of pro bono attorneys, law students (2), clients and cases for the Pro Bono Project. Coordinate the Mediation, Negotiation and Settlement (MNS) Project (2 days a week). Duties and responsibilities: Family Law; Implement and maintain limited scope process for family law services; Supervise volunteers; Develop and oversee intake process; Provide legal support and information; Maintain volunteer training criteria; Provide troubleshooting support where necessary; Conduct/supervise intakes; Provide on-site supervision; Determine services to be provided to clients on a case-by-case basis considering resources available; Create case plans and oversee implementation; Place cases with volunteer attorneys (20%);. Work closely with other staff to: Manage case acceptance based upon resource availability and priorities; Manage the allocation of resources to cases; Manage referral processes to other community services; Manage the hand-off of cases for placement to outside attorneys; Maintain case files and client information in database; Maintain high quality of client-centered services. Work closely with other staff to: Recruit volunteers; Develop a base of volunteer attorneys to supervise, mentor, and take cases; Project Coordination of Mediation, Negotiation and Settlement (MNS) Project (2 days); Assist volunteer attorneys that work with self-represented parties to resolve issues on calendar relating to child custody, visitation, and/or prepare judgment to establish parental relationship; Schedule volunteer attorneys based on the MNS calendar (volunteer list provided); Coordinate and manage the project on the day of MNS session. Work closely with SHC/ office staff. Participate in the development of new programs. Develop and/or participate in trainings organized by Pro Bono Project. Stay informed of family law and relevant court policies and procedures and collaborate with the Court. Represent Pro Bono Project to the Community.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must be CA licensed attorney. 3 years of family law practice experience required. Should have excellent legal writing, legal research and communication skills. Must have excellent client counseling skills. Must have strong understanding of Family law. Must have ability to represent the Project in the public sphere. Should have experience supervising others. Bilingual skills and a good sense of humor will be appreciated.
