Chief Counsel The candidate oversees routine day-to-day legal support for the customer segment, including of senior legal support for contract drafting, negotiation and strategy for largest hospital and provider customers (group purchasing organization relationships, top customer contracts, federal government contracts). Provides senior business unit oversight for subsidiaries that provide value-added offerings (including 340B and pharmacy inventory software, consulting, GPO services) to the institutional customer base. Manages a team of legal professionals (3 lawyers and 2 paralegals) that provide cross-functional support services for the above areas. Serves as the key legal advisor to senior leadership on a wide array of topics relating to the customer segment needs, including legal risk mitigation, customer relationship management and retention, and strategic initiatives and service offerings. Has frequent interactions with other internal stakeholders across functional groups. Reports to the Assistant General Counsel, US Pharmaceutical and Specialty Health.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have a J.D. degree with excellent academic credentials. Membership of a jurisdiction is required. Must have 13+ years of corporate law experience. Large law firm experience combined with in-house experience is preferred. Excellent commercial contract drafting and negotiation skills are required. Should have high comfort providing state and healthcare regulatory advice (anti-kickback law, FCA, privacy, 340B, government contracting, antitrust), preference for experience in the hospital or health system space and/or negotiating commercial contracts with healthcare providers. Proven management experience, and a strong desire to develop and manage a team of high-functioning legal professionals needed.
