Job Overview:
An experienced Trusts and Estates Associate Attorney is sought for a reputable mid-sized law firm in Richmond, Virginia. This role is ideal for candidates with strong research and writing skills, a critical thinking mindset, and a collaborative approach to legal practice.

Duties:

  • Prepare standard estate planning documents, including powers of attorney, advance medical directives, wills, and revocable trust agreements.
  • Draft irrevocable trusts, such as Grantor Retained Trusts, Irrevocable Life Insurance Trusts (ILITs), Intentionally Defective Grantor Trusts, and more.
  • Prepare LLC operating agreements, corporate shareholder agreements, and buy-sell agreements.
  • Advise clients on income, estate, gift, and generation-skipping tax planning strategies, including lifetime gifting programs and charitable planning options.
  • Provide guidance on trust and estate administration matters, including tax elections, postmortem tax planning, and representation before local courts and taxing authorities.
  • Prepare estate and gift tax returns and fiduciary income tax returns.
  • Engage in all aspects of the estate administration process and collaborate with clients and team members on various matters.

Requirements:

  • 2-4 years of relevant experience in trusts and estates law.
  • Admitted to practice law in Virginia.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the Virginia State Bar.
