Innovation Intellectual Property Paralegal The candidate will prepare and file new patent assignments and declarations. Will file patent applications and amendments with the USPTO and work with foreign Intellectual Property Counsel. Maintain Intellectual Property management system (IPfolio), including maintaining records to ensure accuracy throughout patent lifecycle. Assist business partners in answering questions regarding their patent filings. Support the management of patent preparation and prosecution matters and to assure it meets Allstate’s standards of quality, timeliness and cost. Administer patent-related awards program and assist with reporting and presentation preparation related to patent reward program. Play a key role in supporting the strategy determination, action planning, and communication with business partners, business units, and other areas of Law & Regulation. Comfort with executing on goals and objectives through ambiguity and in a changing business and legal landscape. Prefer experience in the following areas: technology, international, intellectual property, strategy, commercial, data, and/or highly regulated sectors. Preference for business and work experience outside legal context.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have Bachelor’s Degree in related field -or- Paralegal Certificate, American Bar Association (ABA) approved is preferred. Must have hands-on Intellectual Property docketing and prosecution experience, and preferably some experience with in-house Intellectual Property work. Experience and good knowledge about priority dates, associated registration numbers, responses to office actions, U.S. and Foreign Filing deadlines, notices of allowance, restriction requirements, issue notification and issue fees, and formal patent documents such as POAs and assignments is essential.mh experience with USPTO databases (PAIR, EFS Web, EPAS), and preferably other foreign PTO websites such as ESPACENET and WIPO Analytical skills and strong attention to detail. Basic budget management skills and ability to reconcile expense reports is essential. Basic researching, proofreading, and formatting skills is essential. Strong interpersonal skills, advanced written and oral communication and effective customer service skills is essential. Experience in a large corporate environment as a paralegal is desirable.
