Paralegal The candidate will provide critical non-attorney services on site in the Protection From Abuse (PFA) courtrooms. Will assist firm attorneys in preparation of cases, files and related documents. Conduct intake interviews with clients or potential clients, gather relevant records, documents and other evidence, and review collected information with firm attorneys. Support clients or potential clients by providing information on PFA and related legal systems, legal options, safety planning, referrals to legal and social services, and other follow-up services. Such support may include accompanying clients at hearings. Provide advocacy on behalf of clients in civil and criminal court as assigned. Work collaboratively with court personnel to ensure the protection of client rights. Will be stationed in the PFA courtrooms in Philadelphia Family Court four days per week. Support firm Attorneys in the preparation of cases for litigation and in the drafting and filing of pleadings in accordance with federal guidelines in the Victims of Crime Act. A Bachelor’s Degree in human services or related field is preferred; an equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered. Some experience in legal services and/or advocacy is preferred; paralegal experience is strongly desired. Must have proficiency in communication, both verbal and written. Ability to plan projects and follow through to completion is required. Organizational abilities and attention to detail, including keeping of records, is needed. Some experience in working on domestic violence issues is strongly desired. Bilingualism is strongly preferred.
