A law firm is seeking an experienced Senior Energy Development Attorney to join its nationally recognized energy development practice group in Portland, OR. This position requires extensive experience in energy transactions, project development, and financing due diligence, with a particular focus on the renewable energy sector. The ideal candidate will handle complex legal issues, including project development contracts, international trade restraints, and power purchase agreements, while thriving in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage energy transactions, including project development, financing due diligence, and equipment procurement.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate key project development documents such as EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contracts, supply agreements, and O&M (Operations and Maintenance) agreements.
  • Advise clients on energy projects, focusing on international trade restraints, including Withheld Restraint Orders (WROs), anti-dumping/countervailing duties (AD/CVDs), and import tariffs.
  • Provide legal guidance on the impact of international trade restrictions on equipment procurement and other development aspects in the renewable energy sector.
  • Advise clients on power purchase agreements (PPAs) and site control documents for distributed energy projects.
  • Independently produce client-ready legal documents and contribute to complex transactions in collaboration with others.
  • Maintain an understanding of the client’s business objectives and goals, offering strategic advice tailored to their needs.
  • Contribute to the success of the team by fostering a collaborative environment and prioritizing client service.
  • Stay informed of developments in energy law and regulatory policies, ensuring compliance and proactive advice.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum 7+ years of relevant experience in energy transactions and project development, including:
    • Experience with EPC contracts, supply agreements, O&M agreements
    • Knowledge of international trade restrictions (WROs, AD/CVDs, tariffs)
    • Power purchase agreements and site control documents
    • Handling transactional and financing due diligence
  • Education: Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited university.
  • Bar Admission: Active membership in the State Bar of Oregon, or ability to become Barred in Oregon.

  • Strong knowledge of energy law, particularly in renewable energy project development.
  • Ability to independently manage and execute complex transactions and produce client-ready legal documents.
  • Intellectual curiosity with a desire to fully understand client goals and deliver tailored legal solutions.
