Assistant City Attorney Planning and Enterprise Funds The candidate will perform a variety of professional level duties and responsibilities involving the delivery of legal services of a complex nature. Legal services include direct assistance to the City Attorney on special projects or assignments. Work involves the review and/or preparation of complex legal documents, the preparation of legal opinions, and the preparation and review of resolutions, ordinances, and other proposed legislation of a complex nature. Responsibilities may include representation of the organisation or various departments in litigation and/or administrative proceedings. Duties may include assignments in a specialized area of law to include Land Use. The selected applicant will have multiple departmental clients including Planning, Zoning and Development and others such as Marine and Aviation, Parking, Public Utilities, Solid Waste and General Services and Storm water. The position also entails representation of the City at various Boards, including the Airpark Advisory Board, the Community Development Board and the Marine Advisory Board. Attendance at Council work sessions and Council meetings may be required. Performs assignments independently and makes legal determinations in matters of substantial importance, subject to review for consistency with policy, possible precedent effect and overall effectiveness. Conducts planning investigations independently and negotiations on behalf of the organisation to resolve legal problems. Prepares or reviews resolutions, ordinances, and other proposed legislation of a complex or unique nature. Prepares or reviews leases and contracts of a complex nature. Performs assignments independently and makes legal determinations in matters of substantial importance, subject to review for consistency with policy, possible precedent effect and overall effectiveness. Represents the office of the Attorney, elected officials, and departments at conferences, hearings, or trials. Performs related work as required.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have compeleted Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor Degree or equivalent. Possession of a State of Florida license as a practicing attorney and admission to the Florida Bar. Must have 5 years of professional experience as an attorney, which includes 3 years of experience pertaining to the local government law. Experience in Planning and Enterprise Funds preferred.
