Staff Attorney/Adjunct Clinical Law Professor, Fair Chance Project Duties: Performing work in the area of expunction and driver’s license restoration. Supervise certified legal interns performing legal work for clients at the Community Law Clinic and organize expunction clinics where clients will receive direct legal services, including restoration of driving privileges. Also supervise certified legal interns performing criminal justice reform policy work, including assisting with mass expunction relief initiatives in partnership with local district attorneys. Be supervised by the Director of the Fair Chance Criminal Justice Project. Collaborate with the Director of the Fair Chance Criminal Justice Project and the Director of the Community Law Clinic to set goals for work. Will receive additional compensation from Law School for the appointment as an adjunct clinical professor.
Qualification and Experience
Candidate will have a JD Degree and be licensed to practice law in the state of North Carolina. may not be subject to any active disciplinary complaints or investigations with the North Carolina State Bar or any other state bar. 5+ years’ experience practicing law in North Carolina or in an equivalent jurisdiction; have legal experience in the area of expunction of criminal records and restoration of driver’s licenses; be committed to working with individuals living in poverty and individuals impacted by the criminal justice system; be thoroughly familiar with and prepared to abide by the North Carolina State Bar Rules governing law school legal clinics and certified legal interns; be committed to providing a rich pedagogical experience for law students; have excellent oral and written communication skills; have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills; be detail-oriented and exceptionally organized; be willing to learn new skills and to work with new technologies; work independently with initiative and self-direction in order to accomplish the goals and purpose of the Justice Center and the Clinic; exhibit professionalism, creativity, and organization in the conduct of duties; and display a commitment to the principles and values of the Center and University Law School. Duration: 1 year
