Profile

Southwire is seeking to hire an experienced attorney to serve as Senior Counsel to provide advice and counsel in support of the Company’s Commercial, Strategic Sourcing, Operations, Engineering, IT and other Shared Services functions, as well as manage the Company’s Litigation, Real Estate and Environmental matters. The Senior Counsel will be part of a team of legal professionals with a mission to deliver top-quality, strategic and cost-conscious legal solutions to business issues, leveraging technology to increase efficiency and drive value to the organization. The ideal candidate is a hands-on, proactive partner who can support a wide assortment of day-to-day needs and long-term projects.

Flexible work arrangements but local candidates preferred. No Relocation Available.

Description of Duties and Responsibilties

  • Provide sound legal advice and counsel to Southwire in complex and diverse matters affecting day-to-day operations by assisting, advising, investigating, researching and resolving legal matters.
  • Partner with the business to assess legal risks and develop strategic solutions to protect the Company’s interests.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of processes and policies to address legal needs.
  • Prepare a broad range of contracts by analyzing, drafting, negotiating, reviewing and overseeing the execution of same to ensure that Southwire’s interests are protected and that Southwire’s obligations are compatible with Company policies and applicable law.
  • Manage the Company’s claims, litigation, real estate and environmental matters, either directly or through the retention and oversight of outside counsel, to generate successful outcomes. Provide periodic reporting to senior management regarding the status of same.
  • Effectively oversee outside counsel, including developing strategies which align with and achieve the Company’s strategic business objectives, coordinating with the appropriate Southwire subject matter experts, and defining the Company’s desired outcomes.
  • Manage a high-volume of legal projects.
  • Develop and present topic specific trainings.
  • Communicate key information to necessary stakeholders to ensure parties are properly informed.

 

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • The ideal candidate will have a diversified background in providing best in class legal services to sophisticated corporate clients (Commercial, Sourcing, Operations, IT, Real Estate, General Contracts and Ligation management experience is a plus). The ideal individual is someone who thrives in a fast paced, team oriented professional group. Outstanding communication skills (both orally and in written form) and the ability to meet deadlines are a must. The ideal candidate will have the following:
  • Excellent academic credentials including a J.D. from a top-ranked U.S. law school and state bar membership in good standing in at least one state.
  • At least 7 years of prior relevant professional experience.
  • Experience partnering with business managers and providing leadership at a growing company is highly desired.
  • An individual who is approachable, trustworthy and dependable with exceptional interpersonal skills; possesses superior intellect, with the ability to think critically and make clear and well-reasoned decisions; possesses a strong, pragmatic business acumen with the ability to recognize the broader consequences of legal advice; and is a strategic and innovative thinker who can deliver value to clients and find creative solutions to complex legal problems.
  • An individual who can deal effectively with strategic issues as well as tactical operational details, exercise sound judgment, and work independently as well as collaboratively and efficiently under time pressure.
