Senior Counsel The candidate will report to the Vice President of Intellectual Property. Will be providing intellectual property support to firmâ€™s Research and Development organization in Chaska MN. As such, he/she will have extensive interaction with Clinical Chemistry and Immunoassay R&D, Program and Product Management. Provide counsel and services to ensure that the organization is protecting its innovations and mitigating risk as to third party Intellectual Property. Acts as a thought-leader, advising, counseling, and actively participating in the development of a strategic, global, Intellectual Property portfolio (including patents, copyrights, and trade secrets) for firmâ€™s businesses, with particular emphasis on procuring protection of hardware and menu relating to Beckmanâ€™s chemistry and immunoassay analyzers. Effectively manages junior counsel and agents within firmâ€™s global intellectual property team. Actively engages with the team to enhance team collaboration, provide coaching, offer guidance, and to promote career development. Drafting and managing technical licenses, contracts and agreements. Monitoring third party Intellectual Property to ensure freedom to operate and to provide competitive intelligence reports and possible technology opportunities to the business. Managing outside counsel and budget.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have Bachelorâ€™s degree or higher from an accredited university in Biochemistry, Chemistry or Biomedical Engineering with 10+ years of experience. Registered to Practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office is essential. Licensing experience is essential. Effective written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to relate at all levels of the organization including R&D, product line leaders and senior management is essential.
