UNIVERSITY OF EVANSVILLE Director of Risk Management and Compliance General Job Description (Primary function of this position in the University) The Director, Risk Management & Compliance will oversee the current functions and continued development of the University's risk management program, including risk assessments and risk mitigation plans. The successful candidate will continuously assess the program to ensure its ongoing effectiveness, and develop and recommend University policies and procedures related to the implementation of the risk management program. The Director, Risk Management & Compliance will be responsible for advising academic and administrative departments in transactions including contracts involving the purchase, sale, lease, or license of goods or services, clinical contracts, and contracts associated with domestic and international program offerings. The Director will also have oversight of the University’s insurance program administration and environmental health and safety management. Essential Functions (Explain most significant duties of position) Direct the functions of risk management which includes the development and administration of current risk management programs and committees. Includes managing budgets related to risk management, environmental management, recycling, and insurance. Review contracts for various academic and administrative areas including purchase, sale, lease, and licensing contracts, and contracts related to clinical placements and program offerings. Direct insurance and claim administration for all insurance programs including general liability, property & casualty, auto liability, educator's legal liability, international programs, workers’ compensation, employee dishonesty, and cyber security. Direct the University's environmental, health, and safety functions including UE's environmental management system (EMS) and recycling (including RecycleMania) programs. Serve on various campus committees such as risk management CORE (chair), art, information, communication and technology, and environmental sustainability task force. Essential Knowledge and Skills (Those qualifications necessary to perform this job) Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree is required with three years’ experience as a transactional attorney for a law firm or legal department of a for profit, non-profit, or governmental entity. Working Relationships Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with diverse audiences at every level of the University. Capability of managing and supervising a staff including the effective planning, prioritization, delegation, and oversight of necessary programs. This position will have direct interaction with vice presidents, deans, directors, department chairs, faculty, and other administrative personnel. From an external perspective, this position will work closely with representatives from EIIA (the University’s insurance consortium), insurance adjusters, representatives from vendors and other third parties, and representatives from various governmental agencies as needed on environmental matters. Physical and Mental Effort Physical effort will be consistent with that of an office position. Computer usage will be required. Mental effort will be significant in carrying out the responsibilities of this position. Work Hours/Travel Requirements Standard office hours (8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday). Limited travel.
