Intellectual Property Counsel Responsibilities: Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents including patent applications, opinions, contracts, letters, and agreements. Assist senior attorneys in the analysis of issues to identify legal problems. Review legal documents for compliance with applicable laws. Stay current on emerging trends in the law through continuing legal education and information sources.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: JD Degree. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred). Registered USPTO patent attorney. 1+ years of experience in the practice of law in a corporate environment, law firm, or government environment. Experience with patent law and the ability to review and analyze patents and patent applications. Understanding of legal issues affecting area of responsibility with the ability to identify issues associated with assigned tasks, and to spot ethical issues in practice. Ability to understand engineering concepts, identify issues, and apply to the appropriate area of patent law. Ability to perform legal research. Skill in interpersonal communications, negotiation, and conflict resolution. Effective writing skills, including grammatical usage, persuasion, and style. Experience with patent preparation and prosecution, within the US and supervising outside the US. Experience drafting patent applications in the areas of mechanical engineering or electrical engineering. Experience with product clearances. Experience with client counseling in the area of patents, clearances, IP contracts, and IP strategy. Project management experience for intellectual property, competitive intelligence, client education, or contracts.
