Profile

Assistant Attorney General The candidate will work for the Section Chief position on the Department of Transportation Team. The holder of this position must be adaptable and possess strong lawyering, communication and management skills. Skills required include: listening and communicating effectively both internally and externally; managing workload and resources; assisting team members with their professional development interests; facilitating regular section meetings; managing and evaluating the performance of section attorneys; and actively participating in division leadership and the development and implementation of operational processes. The Section Chief also carries own assigned clients and caseload, which means being responsible for providing options-based advice while considering the risks involved, and all aspects of litigation including discovery, motions and briefing, mediation, preparing witnesses, and handling administrative hearings, arbitrations, and civil litigation.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate must have graduated from a law school accredited by the ABA or completed the WSBA's Rule 6 Law Clerk Program and be licensed to practice law in Washington state. Should have 5 years of legal experience. Should have demonstrated ability to mentor attorneys, foster teamwork and collaboration, and promote a positive work environment that recognizes and respects all employees. Prior experience in efficiently managing resources, workload issues, and organization of a work group or team is needed. Must have ability to maintain productive working relationships across the AGO, division, section, and with clients and stakeholders. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, which includes being approachable and demonstrating active listening skills, and outstanding oral and written communication skills are needed. Must have strong organizational skills. Should demonstrated excellence in providing high-level client advice, and experience in litigation, including at the administrative, superior court, and appellate levels.
