Paralegal Specialist, GS 12 The candidate will perform independent automated and other legal research in support of the attorneys at firm Headquarters. Conduct in-depth legal research and performs initial analysis for the preparation of legal opinions using a variety of legal research tools and mediums. Identify legal precedents, including laws and Executive Orders, as well as current government-wide and firm regulations, firm regulations, administrative matters and opinions, and other guidance that may be applicable. Analyze information from a wide variety of legal periodicals and other authoritative sources, and ensures matters affecting F operations are referred to the incumbents supervisory chain. Draft in final form a variety of internal and external correspondence relating to both legal and administrative matters, including narrative and statistical reports, necessary to support firm operations. Monitor status of pending legal, administrative, and other actions to ensure timely disposition by the action attorney. Evaluate information in case files, with reference to agency standards for case litigation worthiness. Analyze legal issues arising in litigation or advisory services to determine the appropriate records and data needed and the best approach to obtain the records/data. Maintain case and workload management systems for all pending cases and actions. Prepare litigation calendars and organizes logistical arrangements for conducting witness interviews, investigations, and administrative hearings. Travel Required.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should have 1 year of specialized experience which includes researching case files for deficiencies (e.g., missing documents, inconsistent material, leads not investigated) before sending the case to the assigned attorney; preparing legal briefs for assigned attorney; and organizing gathered data into a comprehensive case file. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the Federal service (GS-11). Candidate will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Information Management; Legal, Government and Jurisprudence; Research; Teamwork; Writing. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
