Fellowship Clerk RESPONSIBILITIES: Clerk will provide assistance and support to either the Housing Unit or Consumer Unit in Office. Represents tenants in matters involving eviction defense, housing repair cases, public housing issues, civil rights, etc. Protects homeowners against the loss of their homes caused by consumer scams or preventable assessments/foreclosure issues and assists consumers in asserting their rights in the debt collection process and taxpayers involved in disputes with the IRS. Program needs and applicant preference will be used to make the decision with respect to placement. Tasks may include research, document drafting, client interviewing and fact investigation under the direction of the unitâ€™s supervising attorney.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Must be a second or third year law student and have a demonstrated interest in the needs and rights of low-income clients. Diverse economic, social, or cultural experiences, and relevant language skills are a plus. Excellent communication and writing skills are required.
Start Date: Fall semester
Duration: 200 hours.
