Legal Assistant
Duties: Schedule Immigration appointments, conduct pre-screening interviews, and escort clients to their appointments in the office. Provide immigration counseling services to assist clients with applications for adjustment of status to lawful permanent resident, naturalization or citizenship, and assistance with obtaining disability and fee waivers. Ensure that case files, paperwork, reporting requirements, applications, documentation, and other provided services are in compliance with program and legal requirements. Assist with outreach to refugee and immigrant communities to ensure the clients know of the availability of adjustment of status and naturalization services. Provide interpretation services to clients as needed. Assist in the scheduling of appointments, answering phones, and maintaining adequate communication and follow-up with clients. Attend trainings to acquire, develop, and maintain skills and knowledge as needed to ensure the ability to provide services. Make ESL and civics instruction referrals for clients as needed; maintain a list of available resources and organizations to provide ESL and civics instruction with their enrollment criteria, location and hours of operation, etc. Ensure proper administration of RSS Integration grant including fiscal, legal, and programmatic functions. Process client payments: receive checks for fee-based services. Submit to administration for deposit; maintain a check deposit record. Enter client data into the agency Refugee Management System. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or certified Paralegal preferred. Interest or experience in immigration law is required. High English and Spanish language proficiency is required. Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Experience working with diverse populations desired. Must be attentive to detail, be a self-starter and be able to work with minimal supervision and under pressure.
