Child Welfare Ipa The candidate will supports national efforts to increase understanding of the needs and opportunities related to improving outcomes for Native American children, families and communities impacted by violence, inequities in the child welfare system, intergenerational trauma, disparities in education, inadequate access to housing, healthcare and economic opportunities. The position will provide leadership and technical support on issues relating to Missing and Murdered Indigenous People, ICWA, VAWA, Tiwahe and other federal initiatives. Serve to enhance the vision of improving the well-being of Native American children, families, and communities. Provide support to the current efforts in partnership with public, private, and tribal entities as well as giving focus to other efforts specifically related to enhancing, supporting, and/or protecting at risk Native American children, youth and families. Work with leadership to seek strategies to advance current federal initiatives as well as implementation of new initiatives in which Native American involvement needs to be strengthened. Gather information from Tribes regarding the barriers, challenges and recommendations regarding improving the well-being of Native American children. In collaboration with federal partners, provide technical assistance to Tribes who are interested in applying for expanded federal funding streams like Tiwahe, VAWA, ICWA, etc. Develop effective relationships with Tribes and work in a liaison role to ensure continuous quality improvement between Tribes and federal agencies. Perform research and analysis on issues related to improving the well-being of Native youth, children, families and communities. Participate in federal interagency work group and other meetings to learn more about operations, policies and practices and to share relevant knowledge from experience in the foundation community. Develop and sustain partnerships between federal departments that are financing services for vulnerable children and families. Master’s degree in Law, Public Policy, or Public Administration, or other related field, with a minimum of 5+ years of experience is required or preferred. Expertise in child welfare and Indian Child Welfare. Accompanying expertise and experience federal child welfare financing desirable. Demonstrated skills in consultation, policy and practice, advocacy, and community partnering are essential. Sophisticated relationship-management skills required. Demonstrated effective leadership and decision-making skills with experience in leading change is essential. Expert knowledge of public child welfare administration, practice and issues required. Expert knowledge of fields related to child welfare, ICWA, Tiwahe, VAWA and knowledge about how the fields intersect and the implications is essential. A balance of assertiveness and diplomacy is critical, as well as effective listening skills and the ability to lead and collaborate with teams of professionals. The ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, is essential. Must be able to work and maintain self-control while under pressure or in stressful circumstances. Effective organizational skills are necessary. Basic computer skills in MS Office are essential. Ability to protect the confidentiality of sensitive information by learning and following all relevant policies and protocols and using sound judgment in the handling and sharing of that information. Physical requirements include the ability to lift and reach for light objects; close visual acuity to prepare and analyze data, text, and figures; ability to type utilizing a computer keyboard; ability to travel to outside locations; and the ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time as a primary job function.
