Staff Attorney The candidate will advise, counsel, and represent immigrant survivors of gender-based violence in their legal matters before the Department of Homeland Security, Department of State and Department of Justice (immigration courts and Board of Immigration Appeals). Provide brief advice and counsel to immigrant survivors of gender-based violence in legal matters related to immigration law. and mentor pro bono attorneys to handle approximately of the cases you handle. Actively participate on an interdisciplinary legal team that centers and empowers Tahirih’s clients throughout the course of representation. Represent Tahirih in coalition efforts to expand networks of legal and social services support for clients, rooted in Tahirih’s interdisciplinary model of representation. As appropriate, build relationships and collaborate with the immigrant rights community through outreach events and substantive trainings. As appropriate and needed, represent immigrant survivors detained in immigration detention centers. Contribute to grant proposals, reports and periodic policy advocacy pieces. Maintain accurate data entry and follow risk management procedures. Provide outreach and education to at least one organization and collaboration that helps provide appropriate referrals to Tahirih; Identify and communicate effectively with individuals seeking legal assistance from Tahirih, including people in crisis; Develop and engage in regular, mutually respectful interdisciplinary team communication and work; Contribute to newsletters and local communications content; Participate in listening sessions, task forces, working groups, and substantive trainings that further Tahirih’s work as an organization and its community; Commit to ongoing anti-racism learning and unlearning and contributing to the implementation of the organization’s Equity Framework; As needed, assist in the recruitment, supervision and support of in-house volunteers and interns; Support office paralegal(s) and other supporting staff members in their administrative duties. JD with current bar membership of any state in good standing or current DOJ accreditation with a recognized organization, Minimum two years of direct legal services experience, ideally in immigration law, Experience working on asylum, U-Visa, T-visa, VAWA, and SIJS applications, Experience working on immigration appellate cases, Bilingual or multi-lingual, Spanish preferred, Excellent legal analysis, written and oral advocacy and presentation skills are required. Responsible, self-initiating, and focused, with proven ability to work independently and also collaboratively in a team-based environment are required. Strong interpersonal skills, cultural competence, and cross-cultural communication skills are required. Must be committed to nonpartisanship are required. Experience supporting survivors of violence and trauma and those from diverse cultural backgrounds are required.
