Fellowship: Employment Opportunity Legal Corps (EOLC) Fellow The Fellow will assist low-income individuals to remove legal barriers to employment for economically disadvantaged individuals. Will provide legal assistance to individuals with legal barriers to employment such as expunging eligible criminal records and reinstating driving licenses. Will work in close collaboration with community partners who provide employment services, and will conduct community education trainings. Provide direct representation to remove barriers to employment. Legal issues will include drivers’ license reinstatement, and eligible criminal record expungement. Manage an independent caseload which includes interviewing clients, developing case plans, conducting discovery, legal research and representation in administrative or civil courts. Do outreach to and collaborate with organizations serving unemployed and underemployed individuals, including employment training centers and other employment organizations to facilitate the creation and sustainment of a network of partners capable of providing supplemental employment services to clients. Other administrative tasks related to AmeriCorps and Equal Justice Works program compliance.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Active membership in the California State Bar and must have graduated from an Equal Justice Works member law school. Completion of NSOPR, California Department of Justice and FBI fingerprint, criminal background check, as well as compliance with all CNCS Federal Regulations throughout fellowship. Previous experience in a legal services program preferred. Demonstrated commitment to serving the needs of low-income people. Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal, organizational and negotiation skills and the ability to work as a team member.
Term: 11-12 months
