Program Description:
- MIRC is a legal resource center for immigrants and immigration advocates across Michigan
- Offices located in Ypsilanti, Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Kalamazoo
- Work includes direct representation, pro bono referrals, impact litigation, training, coalition building, advocacy, technical support, and more
- Part of Michigan Statewide Advocacy Services (MSAS), a non-profit law firm whose administrative services are provided by the Michigan Advocacy Program (MAP)
- Three pillars of work: direct legal services, systemic advocacy, and community education and engagement
- MAP provides access to the justice system through civil legal aid offices and statewide advocacy programs
Qualifications:
- Must be licensed to practice law in Michigan, qualified to be admitted by waiver, or able to take the next Michigan bar exam
- Excellent communication, collaboration, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated commitment to protecting the rights of immigrants or persons in poverty
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- Proficient in major software and web services (Word, Excel, G Suite)
- Access to reliable internet connection for remote work
- Priority given to candidates with experience in immigration and poverty
- Spanish language proficiency preferred
