ProfileLaw Clerk, Summer 2018 The law clerks perform new case intake interviews; contact clients for follow-up through interviews and telephone calls; perform fact gathering; and present new cases at weekly Case Acceptance meetings. Will prepare opening case memos; draft correspondence, pleadings, and motions. Assist in drafting manuals, samples, and educational presentations to support pro bono attorneys working on PLC cases. Prepare cases for placement. Research legal issues; prepare client education materials; and assist in conducting presentations to clients. Will work with the Housing and Homelessness project. Interns assist with housing related issues, including evictions, landlord-tenant disputes, impact litigation, public housing, Section 8 termination and benefits for homeless individuals and families. Also assist with litigation by drafting pleadings, interviewing clients and witnesses, and preparing cases with handling attorney for trial. First, second, or third year (part-time) law students will be considered. Must have demonstrated commitment to serving low-income or disadvantaged individuals, families, and communities. Excellent research and writing skills are needed. Should have sensitivity and ability to work with victims of domestic violence and other sensitive populations. Fluency in Spanish is required.
