Workersâ€™ Compensation Paralegal Responsibilities: Assists attorneys in performing their job duties and enhances attorney effectiveness by providing information and legal support as well as representation of the attorneys to clients and others. Paralegals perform a variety of tasks including drafting legal documents, reports and summaries as well as conducting research and preparing for hearings, mediations and depositions. Record daily billable time in time and billing system. Prepare conflict worksheet upon receipt of new case and set up case files upon firmâ€™s acceptance. Initial file organization including docketing of initial case & client deadlines. Calendar/docket hearings, Pre-Trial agreements, discovery and other deadlines. Draft IC Forms, including Form 24 Application to Terminate Benefits. Draft motions, requests for extensions of time to respond to Motions, Response to Motions. Draft deposition notices. Draft discovery requests and responses. Draft clincher agreements. Draft Pre-Trial Agreements. Prepare Case Status Reports. Prepare Designation of Mediator form. Prepare documents for production pursuant to discovery or Rule 607 request. Prepare Releases and Affidavits. Prepare witness/exhibit lists, subpoenas and contact witnesses. Prepare for hearings. Prepare Medical Chronologies. Prepare Plaintiff Personnel File Chronologies. Prepare index of pleadings, discovery and other file materials (including medical records if not preparing chronology). Schedule mediations and/or depositions. Perform online research, including checking criminal record, driving record history and civil suit history. Communicate with client to obtain responses to discovery. Interview clients and witnesses. Summarize depositions. Summarize discovery responses from opposing counsel. Perform legal research. Utilize computerized litigation techniques and software when applicable. Any other tasks that may be assigned by Management or Supervising Attorneys.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: 4 year degree, or Paralegal certificate from an accredited paralegal program, or 10+ yearsâ€™ experience working as a work Compensation paralegal. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; i.e., Word, Outlook, etc. 2-5 years previous experience working as a Work Comp Paralegal. A typing speed of 50 wpm. Knowledge of NetDocs (Document Management Software), JuraLaw and 3E/Elite helpful. Must be flexible. Excellent client service skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent time management skills. Strong organizational skills and excellent attention to detail. Ability to work under pressure and handle conflicting priorities. Ability to maintain confidential information. Ability to provide paralegal support for two or more attorneys. Ability to manage/meet deadlines. Ability to work independently, or as part of a team, using initiative in all aspects of assignments. Keen observation skills. Prior North Carolina Workersâ€™ Compensation Paralegal Experience preferred.
