Associate General Counsel The candidate will be key team member of the legal team and reports to the CEO. The Associate General Counsel performs services under the direction of the General Counsel for the Verity and will be responsible for handling a variety of complex legal projects applying subject matter knowledge and expertise. Assist General Counsel with the preparation of Legal Department budget. Assist General Counsel with the assignment of work and supervision administrative personnel and paralegal. Assist General Counsel with the performance evaluation of Legal Department administrative personnel. Assist General Counsel with the assignment of work and review of legal work for the labor counsel. Assist General Counsel with any other tasks as assigned by the General Counsel. Provide legal advice on an array of different matters relating to Hospital's operations and governance to the hospital(s) assigned. Serve as the subject matter expert in all labor and employment related legal matters. Provide advice and counsel to management and HR professionals on a broad range of employment and labor issues, including employee relations, hiring, discipline, termination, leave of absences, accommodations, wage and hour compliance, and internal investigations, interpretation of collective bargaining agreements, negotiation of settlements. Ensure compliance with labor and employment laws and regulations and assist with the revision of employment policies. Identifies and assesses labor and employment liabilities for the System and its related entities. Manage all employment litigation, all employment pre-litigation demands, including complaints to state and federal agencies, and labor matters. Supervises, manages, and evaluates outside counsel on labor/employment related matters. Advise Director of Labor Relations in the development of training, investigations, interpretation of collective agreements and handling grievances and ULPs. Assist in collective bargaining as required. Ensure that records of all employment litigation, complaints to state and federal agencies, grievances and ULPs are maintained and kept current. Should have Law degree (JD). Must have 20 years law experience, either in private practice or in-house, in the area of labor/employment. Should have experience in supervising and managing legal personnel and outside attorneys.
