Intellectual Property - General
Intellectual Property Paralegal The candidate will perform the management and organization of information and data relating to the firm’s patents and trademarks. Coordinating with outside counsel on portfolio updates and docket reports, and upkeep of internal IP database. Coordinate with Maxar inventors on invention disclosures and manage invention disclosure progress through the entire internal evaluation workflow. Coordinate regular patent council review sessions, invention harvesting sessions, inventor interviews, and IP training. Ensure timely payment of maintenance and annuities fees by coordinating with our vendor provider and outside counsel. Prepare IP metrics reports for the Executive IP Council. Coordinate with outside counsel and internal colleagues for completion of formalities relating to patent & trademark filings including collection and execution of formal documents. Support IP conflict and litigation matters as needed. Assist with preparation of education, presentations, and other legal-related work product as needed. Help establish and support departmental initiatives, including patent and trademark support technology, processes, and templates.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must preferably have a Bachelor’s Degree. Must have 5+ years of experience as a patent, trademark, or IP paralegal at a law firm or corporate IP department. Prior experience working in an in-house corporate IP legal department is strongly preferred. Trademark search, prosecution, and maintenance experience are preferred. Should preferably have experience in licensing, open-source software, and data privacy and experience using electronic docketing systems and various IP web portals such as PAIR, TESS, and Espacenet. Must have patent prosecution experience including knowledge of US, PCT, and foreign national prosecution processes and deadlines and project-based experience, including creating forms, organizing data, and establishing procedures. Should have strong computer skills, including proficiency in Office365 (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel) and exceptional verbal & written communication skills. Should have the ability to work effectively independently and with others in in-person and virtual team environments and strong attention to detail. Should be well organized with a strong sense of priority, urgency, and commitment to deadlines and have the ability to work autonomously and handle multiple shifting priorities.
