Senior Attorney The candidate will primarily handle the Commission’s Public Records Unit, from initial receipt of request to production of responsive records. Will represent the Commission in state circuit court and in district courts of appeal. May represent the Commission in front of the Florida Supreme Court, in various federal courts, and at the United States Supreme Court. Handle complex and technical litigation, from the initial pleading stage through final appellate order, with minimal direction from a higher level attorney. Must possess strong writing skills, excellent communication and critical thinking skills, and the ability to work independently. Provide legal advice and guidance to the Commissioners, Central Office staff, field staff, and staff of the Office of Executive Clemency. Provide legal assistance to the Commission; Prepare written legal opinions; Research and analyze legal pleadings and precedent; Prepare responses, opinions, motions, orders, and various other pleadings as required; Review and analyze proposed legislation; Review and draft amendments to administrative rules; Represent the Commission in personnel matters; Advise the Commission on employment law matters; Review Commission procedure directives for compliance with relevant legal authority; Monitor litigation assigned to outside counsel, providing legal opinions and direction; and Other duties as assigned. Should have admission to the Florida Bar, with membership in good standing. Criminal justice experience preferred. Experience with the Administrative Procedures Act is preferred. Public records experience is a plus. Appellate experience is preferred. Admission to the Northern, Middle, and Southern Districts of Florida is a plus. Admission to the Eleventh Circuit and the United States Supreme Court is preferred. Extraordinary writing experience is a plus. Closing Date: 05/06/2018
