Profile

Summer Internship Intern will gain invaluable work experience, including research projects, drafting of correspondence, and coordination with other congressional offices. Administrative duties are an essential part of an intern's duties. Answering telephones, opening and distributing mail, and filing are among the typical tasks assigned. Washington interns observe first-hand the workings of Congress and see the legislative process from the inside, while District interns have the opportunity of interacting with the Congressman and his constituents and participating in special projects in the district. May be asked to do a variety of things, including day-to-day office work such as answering phones, writing letters and assisting with media clips. Congressional district offices also act as a liaison for constituents in dealing with federal agencies so interns may be assigned to assist in various constituent casework or work on District-based projects of importance.
