ProfileStaff Attorney/Magistrate The candidate will be responsible for administering the general division civil docket. Administer the civil docket by conducting various hearings and trials, ruling on motions. Making decisions and terminating cases within a timely manner on civil protection cases and civil stalking cases. Track case timelines to ensure timely decisions, justice and proper reporting to the Supreme Court. Act as mediator to aid parties of the case to reach a settlement. Conduct arraignments. Conduct civil pre-trial and trials as requested by Judge. Serve on various committees as representative of Judge. Any other duties as requested by Judge.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have a Juris Doctorate degree. Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio with previous legal experience. Thorough knowledge of the legal system to include Ohio criminal rules and statutes, civil rules of procedure and court process/procedure. Knowledge of the Rules of Court, the Ohio Revised Code, Administrative Code, Civil rules, federal rules and regulations. Knowledge and ability to use appropriate software. Ability to analyze cases within relevant statutes and the rules of evidence. Ability to interpret legal decisions/case law. Ability to conduct legal research. Superior interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from widely varied levels of education and competence and individuals who may be upset, distraught, irate, emotionally and mentally or otherwise unable to function within reasonable range of constructive behaviors. Demonstrate integrity, reliability and the ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to organize and maintain large volumes of information and paperwork and manage and direct a large, complex case load with minimal direct supervision.
