Accountant Duties: The candidate will be responsible for entering, monitoring, and tracking obligation data and contract agreements (for reimbursable orders). Researches and analyzes anomalies in the financial management automated data system and ensures that accounting transactions are posted accurately and timely. Validates controls and maintains the accomplishment of technical work in accordance with policy, directives, regulations, and reporting requirements. Performs accounting duties based on the accounting management team's priorities in accordance with prescribed deadlines and well established accounting principles and administrative procedures. Coordinates with systems personnel to test system upgrades and provides feedback on success or failure upon completion of adjusted standard operating procedures.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: The candidate should have a degree in accounting or a related field (such as business administration, finance, or public administration) that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours (or 36 quarter hours) in accounting (may include up to 6 hours of business law). OR Combination of education and experience: 4 years of accounting experience or a combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge AND 24 semester hours (or 36 quarter hours) in accounting/auditing courses or a certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor. Specialized Experience: In addition to meeting the basic requirements, must have 1 year of specialized experience at the GS-07 or equivalent level. Specialized experience includes serving as a technical resource on corporate accounting operations by providing guidance, assistance, training and advisory services; and collaborating with management and other staff in administering corporate accounting operations programs and functions; and assisting in creating financial statements and top side adjustments or similar functions; and using Excel to analyze financial data and produce reports; and assisting in analyzing, evaluating and reviewing accounting data and reports using business tools and applications, and performance metrics to provide recommendations; and utilizing established accounting standards to compile, analyze, and summarize accounting data resulting from day-to-day accounting operations; and maintaining the integrity of financial accounts and preparing financial statements and/or reports; or participating in the reconciliation of account relationships on the General Ledger (GL), including reconciling Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable ledgers; or resolving abnormal amounts and inconsistencies in the GL accounts and reporting on status. Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience: A Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D. with major study in accounting, auditing, or related discipline may be substituted to meet the specialized experience requirement.
