Legal Support Specialist Duties: Under general direction, to be first point of contact answering phones and scheduling hearings, appointments, etc.; performs a wide range and variety of general clerical duties for the Office of State Public Defender, and related work as required. Drafting motions, filing and distributing the necessary legal papers to the correct people, making and coordinating appointments and hearings between clients and their attorney, substance abuse evaluators and treatment centers, witnesses and investigators. Gather information by asking questions or determine sources for information to accurately assist public, law enforcement, attorneys. Prepare pleadings, contracts, forms, legal memoranda and other documents for criminal cases. Prepare inner-office court schedule. Schedule and track deadlines to move cases forward and meet procedural requirements. Enter pertinent data into designated computer systems/software programs, review and verify data, analyze and summarize transcription. Maintain limited statistical data. First point of contact for the office.
Qualification and Experience
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree (Typically in Legal Studies/Paralegal) PLUS 0-1 years of progressive work experience in (Legal Studies/Paralegal) OR 3-4 years of progressive work experience in (Legal Studies/Paralegal). Preference may be given to applicants who have experience in a law office or court. Knowledge of legal concepts, terminology, principles and procedures. Knowledge of state and federal court policies and procedures. Knowledge of Wyoming Statutes and Agency mission goals, policies and procedures.
