# Paralegal II, Juvenile Rights Trial Office – Citywide The Legal Aid Society’s Juvenile Rights Practice is seeking an experienced Paralegal II to join the Juvenile Rights Trial Office in Citywide. The Paralegal II will be part of an interdisciplinary team of lawyers, Forensic Social Workers, and support staff providing representation to children who are before the Family Court on child protective, PINS, delinquency and termination of parental rights petitions. ## Essential Duties/Responsibilities * Conduct legal research * Assist at intake; process preliminary case information into database, conduct conflict checks, gather information and determine prior history * Digest case records * Monitor provision of services and agency compliance with court orders * Advocate for benefits and services * Locate files and obtain documents * Interact with court personnel to facilitate office operations * Gather case information from other agencies * Prepare and assemble court papers * Make field visits * Assist with service referrals and special projects * Interview witnesses and collateral sources * Conduct background and follow-up interviews with clients * Other duties as assigned ## Requirements * Paralegal certificate from an ABA accredited school or Bachelor’s degree in relevant field * Possess 3-5 years of consistent paralegal experience servicing and representing clients who are criminal justice involved. Preference given to those with experience in complex, civil, criminal and family law * Experience in and/or commitment to advocacy on behalf of low-income people is required * Excellent writing, verbal and organizational skills * Proficiency in legal research * Strong computer and word processing skills * Proficiency in languages other than English is desirable but not required * Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team model ## Salary and Benefits The Legal Aid Society offers a competitive salary range of $50,000 to $53,000 for the role of Paralegal II, Juvenile Rights Trial Office – Citywide. The specific salary offers will be dependent on candidate qualifications, including collectively bargained salary steps for unionized roles. In addition, The Legal Aid Society offers a generous benefits package including health insurance, paid vacation, disability, and life insurance, and more.
