Assistant Counsel, Supply Chain
Duties: Provides legal services for assigned Ministry consistent with the Legal Department and, in coordination with, the needs of the assigned team, and the strategies and priorities of the organization. Responsible for handling a variety of routine to moderately complex legal matters or projects. Work requires independent judgment and requires direct client contact. Knows, understands, incorporates and demonstrates the mission, vision and values of assigned Ministry in leadership behaviors, practices and decisions. Provides legal counsel to assigned Ministry and its operating entities with respect to matters in the field of corporate healthcare law. Meets routinely with the supervisor to establish priorities and manage expectations for the delivery of legal services at the assigned Ministry. Provides specific areas of legal expertise to the Department and may perform legal services of a system-wide benefit. Performs a variety of legal tasks within specific areas of expertise, including preparing formal memoranda and legal opinions on subjects that require extensive legal research. Advises and performs a variety of legal assignments for corporate staff members, including officers and other management personnel. Provides consultation and advice to Ministry management and governance. Represents the interests of the Ministry in contacts with outside parties including attorneys, managers and officials of other companies and government agencies. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws/regulations; the Integrity and Compliance Program and Code of Conduct; as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior.

Qualification and Experience

QUALIFICATIONS: Licensed attorney holding a JD Degree from a recognized law school. Must have 3+ years’ experience practicing law with some experience in the practice of corporate healthcare law, including the laws affecting tax-exempt organizations, with demonstrated legal capability in negotiating and drafting supply chain agreements. Must possess highly effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to relate directly, openly, and effectively with both internal and external constituencies. Strong negotiation skills and superb listening capabilities. Must possess the ability to work independently on routine matters. However, is expected to seek guidance and accept supervision on more complicated matters or where substantial amounts of money or significant other risks to Trinity Health are involved. Attorney’s work is subject to review by the Trinity Health General Counsel, Managing Counsel or by other, more senior members of the Trinity Health Legal Department. Must possess strong conceptual and analytical skills. Strong interpersonal and consultative skills. Ability to deal tactfully with diverse people, situations and ideas and present advisory, persuasive and authoritative recommendations to all levels of the organization. Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment. Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals and values. Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment. PREFERRED SKILLS: Experience with general contracting (including the drafting, review and negotiating of supply chain contracts) is required. An understanding of business and regulatory issues related to healthcare transactions is preferable. The ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously and collaborate as part of a larger team is essential.
