Paralegal II The candidate performs a variety of law-related tasks such as legal research, drafting legal documents and other related duties. Work assignments are varied and frequently require interpretation and independent determination of the appropriate courses of action. Performs legal and records research. Identifies relevant judicial decisions, statutes, legal articles, codes and other pertinent material. Drafts legal documents including briefs, pleadings, appeals, agreements, contracts and legal memoranda. Understands department, segment, and organizational strategy and operating objectives, including their linkages to related areas. Makes decisions regarding own work methods, occasionally in ambiguous situations, and requires minimal direction and receives guidance where needed. Follows established guidelines/procedures. Researches law, investigates facts, and prepares documents to assist the general counsel and compliance officer by performing a variety of support duties. Researches and analyzes law sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, treaties, constitutions, and legal codes. Prepares legal documents such as contracts, initial and amended articles of incorporation, closing papers and binders and other legal documents. Performs other clerical duties such as scheduling appointments, providing information to callers, taking dictation, composing and typing routine correspondence, and reading and routing incoming mail. Prepares affidavits of documents and maintains document file. Files correspondence and legal documents in office filing system. Ensures proper indexing and filing of original legal documents. Assists in developing policies and procedures. Should have Bachelor's degree (B.A.) or 1-2 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Paralegal certification is required. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals is preferred. Corporate law or compliance department or law firm paralegal experience preferably with experience in medical or Medicare/Medicaid insurance is desired. Should preferably have, with supervision from the assigned attorney, reviewed and analyzed a broad range of agreements, amendments, non-disclosure agreements and related documents.
