ProfileManaging Attorney The candidate will mentor, supervise and provide support for a team of staff attorneys representing detained and recently released adults in their immigration removal proceedings. Will provide fearless and zealous representation to clients on their own reduced caseload of deportation defense cases. Lead case review sessions and work collaboratively with staff to develop case strategies and litigation tactics. Work to develop and implement policies and procedures that increase effectiveness and efficiency within our representation work. Provide guidance to staff attorneys to work as part of a team and in furtherance of the mission of the organization. Must have Juris Doctorate degree. Spanish language proficiency required. Must have Active, California State Bar License, or license from another jurisdiction and commitment to taking CA bar or “waiving in” to the CA Bar via the Multi-Jurisdictional Practice Program. Should have 3+ years of experience in the practice of law, with 2+ years of immigration removal defense specific experience. Must have experience managing, teaching and mentoring staff and/or interns is important. Knowledge of issues facing detained immigrants and their families, and experience representing detained immigrants is a huge plus. Experience as a public defender and/or with cases at the cross-section of criminal law and immigration law is helpful.
