Field Staff Attorney, Contract Candidate will: Initiate weekly communication with program and administrative leadership on the design, development, implementation, and monitoring of programs, services, and practices, particularly regarding legal risks and trends, court performance, and relationships with court personnel. Regularly monitor and address legal risks and trends, courtroom dynamics, local practices, and practice expectations in courts located in assigned counties, conveying the same to program leadership. Initiate review of the quality of court reports, courtroom performance, and relationships with court partners. Elicit formal and informal feedback from Judges, Guardian ad Litems, District/County Attorneys, Parent Attorneys, DCF, CRB, CSOs, and CASA, through regular contact. Build and maintains positive working relationships with courts and court personnel including Judges, Guardian ad Litems, District/County Attorneys, Parent Attorneys, DCF, CRB, CSOs, and CASA. Initiate positive and professional working relationships with court personnel and program leadership/employees and maintains the same. Facilitate ad hoc or standing judicial meetings or other meetings with court partners on a regular basis. Participate with Vice President of Legal Services and other Field Staff Attorneys in structuring training for staff and provides introductory training to new staff and refresher training to current staff in coverage area. Provide timely responses to inquiries and requests for assistance by court personnel on case specific matter. Provide timely legal advice on complex cases to field staff. Act as liaison between court personnel and complex cases. Respond timely to legal matters and appears in court on behalf of regularly. Conduct research and writing as needed or assigned. Assist Vice President of Legal Services and General Counsel in ongoing litigation in which is interested or is a party. Assist Vice President of Legal Services and General Counsel in commercial transactions to which is a party. Initiate collaboration with program and administrative leadership to ensure that staff receive necessary legal training, performance feedback, and legal support. Monitor developments in federal and state child welfare and related statutes, case law, and regulations and trains staff on changes. Provide formal and informal training and education on complex or emerging legal issues to program and administrative leadership. Inform Vice-President of Legal Services of critical legal matters, trends, opportunities, and events; participate in strategic assessment, planning, and implementation as a member of the Legal Department. Keep Vice-President of Legal Services informed of activities. Partner with program and administrative leadership in assessment, planning, and interventions around specific challenges that create opportunities for strategic interventions around legal and court priorities and practices. Initiate regular conversations with Performance Improvement and Quality Assurance staff to work with field staff on improving contract outcomes. Must have: Master's required. Masters Degree - Law is required.
