Job Overview:
A prestigious global law firm is seeking experienced Patent Attorney for its Intellectual Property group. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with a technical background in semiconductors or software (including artificial intelligence and machine learning) to work on complex patent prosecution matters. The role provides the chance to manage significant responsibility and engage directly with clients. Applicants should have a strong understanding of patent law, particularly 35 . §101 rejections, and demonstrate the ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Location:

• Kansas City, MO

Duties:

• Interview inventors and draft patent applications.
• Prosecute patent applications, including overcoming rejections under 35 . §101.
• Provide legal counsel on patent matters, particularly in semiconductor or software technologies.
• Work on patent filings related to AI, machine learning, and other advanced technologies.
• Manage direct client interactions and assist with the development of client strategies.
• Take on substantial responsibility with opportunities for growth and leadership.

Requirements:

• Registered to practice before the United States Patent Office (USPTO).
• 1-4 years of experience in patent prosecution.
• Experience with patent applications in semiconductors, software, AI, or machine learning preferred.
• Strong ability to work independently while being part of a collaborative team.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Strong work ethic with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
• Law firm experience is highly preferred.

Education:

• JD from an accredited law school.
• Technical degree preferred.

Certifications:

• USPTO Registration (required).

Skills:

• Expertise in patent prosecution and related legal matters.
• Familiarity with semiconductor or software patent law, including AI/ML technologies.
• Excellent drafting, interviewing, and client communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
