Director, Claims The candidate will be providing advice and counsel to the Company on matters related to the Company’s business (including legal advice, if the position is filled with an attorney); Accountable for the performance and results of a team(s) within own discipline or function. Providing leadership and direction to fellow team members. Managing and developing professional employees and supervisors. Executing the performance management process by providing feedback and coaching on an ongoing basis throughout the year by discussing development opportunities, performance issues, and changes that are occurring. Conducting mid-year and year-end performance reviews for direct reports. Engaging employees to establish and achieve scheduled milestones and appropriate benchmarking measures for safety, reliability, customer service, financial performance, and/or compliance. Leading efforts that increase productivity and goal accomplishment across Business Unit. Analyzing legal documents such as complaints, answers, motions, briefs and the like and work closely with outside counsel and the team to develop legal strategies. Providing day to day management and handling of major cases and major claims including (but not limited to) attending depositions, witness interviews, court appearances, settlement conferences, pre-trials and trials, site inspections, major claims investigations and handling discovery matters. If an attorney, the Director, Claims may be called upon to enter his or her appearance in certain matters (as appropriate) on behalf of the Company. Adhering to strict compliance with the written Claims Processes. Maintaining working knowledge of all litigation and major claims matters within the Company and, if an attorney, providing legal advice and legal evaluation on litigation matters and major claims. Ensuring accurate and timely updates are made to all case reports, trial reports, litigation notes and the like. Supervising and managing the receivable claims process for all matters within the company. Administrative functions such as invoice/expense review and approval, assist Risk Management with insurance approvals, review/update retained evidence, provide quarterly insurance updates, gather, prepare and maintain investigative materials for major claims, maintain GCC’s Reserve Report. Understanding and managing work according to departmental budget while maintaining budget guidelines. Working closely with the Legal Department, particularly in conjunction with significant litigation, major claims, root cause analyses, and other incidents. Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Business or related discipline. Juris Doctor degree is optional with license to practice law in good standing in at least one jurisdiction in which the Company does business. Should have 12+ years of professional work experience. Experience at or with insurance carriers and coverage policies beneficial. Experience leading and managing teams is required. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint). SAP experience a plus. Should be capable of communicating, motivating, and driving workforces toward positive change and improvement. Maintain a high level of professionalism in communications both inside and outside of the Company. Experience in process and project development, planning and analysis, and performance reporting. Exceptional relationship management, leadership, teamwork, and managerial skills are required. Should have strong written and verbal communication skills to make clear, accurate, and concise written and verbal reports.
