ProfileAttorney IV Duties : Performs highly complex professional legal and policy work for the Commissioner Representing the Public of the Texas Workforce Commission. Plans, organizes, and oversees work, interprets laws and regulations, prepares legal documents, renders legal advice and provides counsel to the Commissioner. Reviews proposed state and federal legislation that may affect the agency. Provides legal and policy advice on the impact and interpretation of new rules and regulations associated with workforce strategies, programs or operations. Work will include legal and policy research combined with data analysis, reviewing tax, wage claim, and unemployment insurance cases and making recommendations based upon applicable sections of the state and federal laws such as the Texas Unemployment Compensation Act and workforce issues and programs. Assists in formulating, coordinating, and establishing policies and procedures and proposing alternate strategies to implement them. Supports the work of the Commissioner's office by citing precedents, developing recommendations and alternatives. Produces effective correspondence and oral communications with workforce system professionals and the general public. Work may include drafting rules for the Texas Workforce Commission. Coordinates with other agency employees and legal staff to complete work. May represent the agency at meetings, conferences, hearings and other functions. Performs related work as assigned.
Qualification and Experience
Qualification : should have Graduation from an accredited law school approved by the American Bar Association and admission to the State Bar of Texas plus 3+ years of experience in the full-time practice of law, or 3+ years of full-time experience in a responsible position involving legal work as a primary duty, or 3+ years of full-time experience involving the legal aspects of administration in the fields of industrial or labor relations.
Preferred Qualification : Experience in the legislative process. Texas state government and policy work and general knowledge of economic development and education policy is desired.
