Paralegal The candidate will provide support to victims of sexual assault in Massachusetts. Will often be the first point of contact for clients and, after extensive training, will conduct client intakes. Will also help staff attorneys prepare various applications, assist with casework, and provide support with other administrative tasks. Will work with direct services team in Massachusetts to assist in providing free, comprehensive legal assistance for sexual assault survivors. Will conduct initial phone screening with potential clients to assess eligibility for VRLC services; Schedule client intakes and appointments with staff attorneys; Work with clients to gather assault-related information and documentation; Assist with preparation of immigration filings; work with clients on evidence gathering for various forms of immigration relief, including U visas, T visas, DACA and VAWA self-petitions, and asylum; Conduct legal research; Assist with data management; Assist in implementing an outreach plan to increase access for services for survivors throughout the Commonwealth. Other administrative tasks as directed
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have 2 years relevant experience in the legal profession, immigration law experience strongly preferred. Paralegal certification strongly preferred; Demonstrated commitment to protecting the rights of underserved populations (experience working with sexual assault survivors strongly preferred); Fluency in Spanish or Portuguese and English preferred; Ability to handle and resolve recurring problems in a courteous and professional manner; Excellent writing, verbal, computer, and data management skills. Should be able to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without supervision. Must be detail-oriented, highly flexible, and self-motivated.
