Senior Probate Examiner Duties : Under direction of a Court Operations Manager, a Senior Probate Examiner provides supervision to assigned staff and technical expertise in the procedural aspects of probate cases; and performs related duties as required. Typical duties may includes : supervising, scheduling, assigning, and reviewing work performed by Probate Examiners and Court Investigators; identifying and explaining defects in filings; researching probate statutes and case law and briefing the probate judge regarding unusual cases; drafting operational policies and procedures; providing authoritative procedural information to attorneys, self-represented litigants, beneficiaries, and the general public; and supervising the business office staff in the absence of the Court Operations Supervisor.

Qualification and Experience

Qualification : The candidate must have 1+ year of full-time experience as a Probate Examiner II or Court Investigator with the San Diego Superior Court;
OR
4 years of full-time probate examining or court investigating experience;
OR
A paralegal certificate or Associate's degree (or higher) in legal studies or related field from an accredited college or university, and three (3) years of full-time probate examining or court investigating experience;
OR
A Juris Doctor degree from an accredited college or university, and three (3) years of full-time experience as a practicing probate attorney in California.
Knowledge of provisions of the California Probate Code, Civil Code, Code of Civil Procedure; rules promulgated by the Judicial Council and Superior Court rules which are regularly applied in the examination of petitions for conservatorships, probate of wills, and other actions requiring approval of the probate court; legal terminology, legal procedures and documents pertaining to probate matters is required.
