Paralegal / Legal Specialist The candidate will apply specialized legal knowledge of rules and procedures to assist with matters assigned or overseen by Deputy General Counsel and/or Associate General Counsel for Litigation, Arbitration and Employment. Assist Deputy General Counsel and/or Associate General Counsel with preparing presentations to management including potential exposure review, budgets, accruals, etc.; assist with preparing presentations for board committee meetings. Prepare case budgets for review by in-house attorneys and assist with managing department annual budget, plus monitoring and analysis of budget against actual spend by matter and prepare and report forecast analysis reports for the department. Assist Accruals Coordinator with various tasks including, but not limited to, quarterly management and reporting of Legal Accruals, coordinating with external auditors and controllers regarding contingent legal accruals. Assist with managing eDiscovery processes and guidelines, including assisting with Legal Hold Order (LHO) compliance, eDiscovery, and department records management. Coordinate and assign tasks to legal support staff with respect to file maintenance, case management plan updating, docket calendaring, check processing, and routine communications with clients, court clerks, outside counsel, and others.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate must have Paralegal certificate or equivalent education. Should have 7+ years of legal experience working in a law firm and/or corporate legal department. Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts or Business from an accredited university is preferred. Legal project management experience (e.g., proactively managing tasks related to legal cases or matters, managing budget and spend, evaluating value of services based on fee arrangements, etc.) is a plus. Experience in the oil and gas industry is helpful. Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products, in particular Excel and Powerpoint is an asset. Strong interpersonal skills and effective oral and written communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate with internal business and auditors is needed.
