Patent Paralegal The candidate provides support for the Office of Technology Development (OTD) by independently handling many patenting related responsibilities in accordance with the confines of established processes. Inputs and updates internal database (Wellspring) regarding research disclosures, invention disclosures, patent applications and patents. Develops electronic filing systems, organizing documents and applications, drafting letters and documents, and notification and alert templates. Composes correspondences for United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and outside counsel. Independently coordinates patent-related documentation between law firms, inventors, Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI), and Licensing Associates. Conducts patent mapping and patent history research. Monitors and audits various stages of the intellectual property protection and licensing processes and ensures compliance with government and Salk requirements/procedures. Reports invention disclosures and United States patent filings to the federal government using iEdison, prepares and files government reports on all government supported invention disclosures. Works with Senior Director and licensing functions within OTD. Bachelor's degree plus 2+ years of experience. Patent Paralegal experience is needed. Paralegal certificate is needed. Must have 2 years of law office or legal field under the supervision of an attorney. Experience entering and maintaining database information accurately through self-audit and reporting is needed. Experience with Patent Application Information Retrieval (PAIR), World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and Computer Patent Annuities (CPA) is essential. Should have High School Diploma or equivalent 5+ years of patent paralegal experience or ten (10) years of similar patent support experience.
