Profile

Associates Students will work for the Access to Justice Project. Attend low-income residents applying for legal assistance by calling the TAJ’s toll-free number. Will students who conduct detailed substantive intake interviews and, under the supervision of a staff attorney, offer brief counsel and advice when appropriate. Enter Client information into customized database, accessed by attorneys who make case disposition decisions based on intake information collected. Will work with staff attorneys throughout the service area. Will develop practical legal skills and assist low-income Texans with a wide variety of legal problems. Law students who have completed their first or second year of law school are eligible for the position. First year students can interview, but employment cannot begin until the completion of the first year of law school. The ability to speak in Spanish is strongly preferred. Schedule: 12-15 hours per week
