Counsel - eDiscovery Duties: Manage, in collaboration with the Assistant General Counsel and, in some cases, outside counsel, all aspects of eDiscovery, including ESI preservation, retention, collection, search and refinement processes, review, and production. Assist outside counsel on eDiscovery meet and confer communication, and discovery motion practice. Assist in assembling best in class combination of tools, software, vendors, and/or processes for complex litigation. Provide leadership and direction on eDiscovery, document/data retention, and data security matters. Oversee an eDiscovery legal professional. Assist in developing document retention and records management policies and procedures. Provide eDiscovery , data and document retention and management advice and counsel to the develop cost-effective ESI and eDiscovery strategies. Manage eDiscovery vendors, and negotiate good pricing and services. Independently manage responses to discovery requests and subpoenas. Interface and collaborate with IT on all aspects of data life cycle management, retention, and data security issues. Manage eDiscovery needs of many cases at one time.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and a JD Degree from an accredited law school. 8+ years of work experience including experience directly supporting litigation as an eDiscovery professional at a law firm and/or in-house. Experience with eDiscovery software, products, tools, and vendors. Experience with the ESI search term refinement process and negotiation, and eDiscovery related motion practice. Experience planning and implementing predictive coding protocols and searches, and with pre-review automated search tools. Experience in forensic investigations. Experience working with IT and/or outside vendors to automate ESI retention, collection, and review processes. Substantive knowledge on a range of solutions for searching and managing high quantities of data in varying formats. Knowledge of how eDiscovery landscape and caselaw is evolving and formulating proactive action plans. Ability and experience managing eDiscovery across substantive areas of law, including employment, general litigation, IP, and antitrust. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification. Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position. Preferred. Presented or published on eDiscovery and litigation. Experience in comprehensive eDiscovery meet and confer communications. Experience in working with IT and/or outside vendors in developing comprehensive data lifecycle management, document retention, and data security policies and procedures. Experience in data mapping. Comfortable both reporting to and collaborating with Assistant General Counsel and other attorneys, as well as working independently, to achieve results. Comfortable in an environment where demands and priorities change rapidly. Robust organizational and time management skills.
