Job Overview:

A law firm in Washington, DC is seeking a skilled IP, Life Sciences, and Patent Agent to join their team. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in life sciences patent preparation and prosecution, combined with advanced scientific education and legal credentials. This role involves managing intellectual property matters, preparing and prosecuting patent applications, and providing expert guidance in the field of life sciences.

Duties:

  • Prepare and prosecute patent applications related to life sciences, including chemistry, molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, and chemical engineering.
  • Conduct patent searches and provide analysis on patentability, freedom to operate, and infringement issues.
  • Draft and file patent applications, including detailed technical descriptions and claims.
  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams to gather necessary information and ensure comprehensive patent protection.
  • Review and analyze prior art to support patent prosecution and strategy.
  • Provide strategic advice on intellectual property portfolio management and commercialization.
  • Respond to office actions and work with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on prosecution matters.
  • Stay current with developments in patent law and life sciences technology to ensure up-to-date practices.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in life sciences patent preparation and prosecution.
  • Advanced degree (. preferred) in chemistry, molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, chemical engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong academic and work credentials, demonstrating excellent writing skills and technical expertise.
  • Law degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Membership in the Bar in the United States.

Education:

  • . in chemistry, molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, chemical engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Juris Doctor (.) from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Member of the Bar in the United States.
