Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Graduation from high school. One-half (1/2) year of responsible work experience in a court or legal setting. Such experience must have included the preparation and/or processing of legal forms and documents. 2 years of work experience which involved the performance of a variety of clerical tasks, with or without the use of a typewriter and/or computer, which demonstrated knowledge of English grammar, spelling, arithmetic, common office appliances and equipment; the ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, carry out procedures in clerical work systems, speak and write simply and directly, compare words and numbers quickly and accurately; and operate various kinds of office equipment.
Substitution of Education for General Experience: Education at an accredited community college or university in a baccalaureate program may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of 15 semester hours for six (6) months of General Experience up to a maximum of two (2) years.
Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience: Completion of a legal stenographer or legal secretary curriculum in a school above the high school level may be substituted for 1 year of Specialized Experience. Study at an accredited university or college in paralegal, legal studies, or law program may be substituted for 1 year of Specialized Experience. Completion of a law degree from an accredited university or college may be substituted for 2 years of Specialized Experience. Type at a rate of 40 net words per minute.
