Paralegal (VOCA Program)
The candidate will work for the Community Health and Research Center department. Under general direction, the Paralegal uses intermediate skills obtained through experience and training to provides support to staff attorney(s) by conducting client intakes, preparing official documents including affidavits and legal correspondence, as well as organizing and maintaining files. Files pleadings with court clerks and helps prepare staff attorney(s) for trials by organizing exhibits, conducting research and assisting with other tasks as required. Manages multiple time-sensitive projects at the same time in a fast-paced office environment. Will prepare affidavits, legal correspondence, briefs, wills, contracts, real estate closing statements, pleadings, appeals and other legal documents for attorneys. Meet with clients, attorneys and other relevant professionals to discuss case details. Organize and maintain documents in a paper or electronic filing system. File official documents, including pleadings, with the court clerk. Assist in preparation for trial proceedings by organizing exhibits and assist with other preparation tasks as needed. Investigate facts and laws pertaining to cases by searching public records and other resources to prepare cases and determine courses of action. Gather and analyze research data such as statutes, decisions, legal articles, codes and other documents. Coordinate day-to-day legal operations, including delivery of subpoenas. Maintain agency confidentiality and clients? privacy. Operate standard office equipment and use required software applications. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Intermediate concepts of paralegal responsibilities required. Fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of legal office administration required. Operate standard office equipment and using required software applications for program area and other applications, including Microsoft Office skill required. Establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels of the organization. Provide a high level of customer service. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment. Organize and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Excellent organizational skills required. Strong oral and written communication skills required. Conducting legal research required. Reviewing legal documents required. Legal administration required. Effectively multi-task, manage time-sensitive documents and have exceptional organizational skills in a fast-paced environment required. Associate degree required. Bachelor?s degree preferred. 2 years of experience as a paralegal, in office administration or other experience approved by Human Resources required. Certificate of completion from an ABA-approved paralegal certification program of education and training preferred.
