Volunteer Law Student, Summer 2018 The interns will be involved in all facets of case preparation including: researching legal issues; drafting/writing motions, responses and various pleadings; providing trial support; interviewing witnesses; and assembling exhibits for trial. In addition, interns are generally afforded extensive opportunities to attend trials, hearings, attorney conferences, meetings, and other legal proceedings. First-year (second semester), second and third-year law students will be considered. Should be enrolled in law school pursuing a J.D. degree and is taking at least half-time academic course load in an accredited university. Must have outstanding academic record, superior writing skills, and be in good academic standing at university. Should become familiar with the Federal Rules of Civil and Criminal Procedure, the Federal Rules of Evidence, and the local rules of practice for the South Dakota District Court, and the local and Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure.
