The Senior Paralegal - Legal Services/Litigation Team provides administrative support to attorneys and manages daily operations of the Litigation Section within the Legal Services Department. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree and at least six years of paralegal experience to include 3 years of litigation paralegal experience. The selected candidate must have a Paralegal Certification by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization (TBLS). The preferred candidate will be very organized, a quick learner, able to work independently, show strong initiative and drive, hold a good work ethic, and be very passionate about the legal industry and process.

Provides information to other attorneys, legal assistants, paralegals and other support staff through educational materials, meetings, in-service presentations, and other methods. Serves as liaison to various institutional offices, UT System Office of General Counsel attorneys, and Assistant Attorneys General and outside defense counsel. JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES Legal Professional Provides administrative support to attorneys. Assists the attorneys in the Litigation Section with all duties and responsibilities regarding subpoenas and all lawsuits in which MD Anderson is a party. Develops self-organization systems to timely and effectively complete tasks without the need of additional prompts or reminders. Ensures that all litigation docket and subpoena response deadlines are on all appropriate calendars, including the calendar(s) of the attorney(s) managing the matter. Coordinates and assists with creating discovery response plans that include scheduling and monitoring of deadlines, identifying appropriate witnesses, and manage response workflow in a timely manner. Coordinates and assists withgathering documents and information, organizing and storing documents/information, drafting discovery responses, and communicating with MD Anderson attorneys and outside counsel, witnesses, and internal stakeholders, as appropriate. Creates, drafts, and edits routine correspondence, office memoranda and other correspondence to and from institutional clients, outside attorneys and other individuals involved in the management of in-house litigation. Performs administrative duties regarding mediation and settlement of claims and lawsuits. Provides all necessary administrative support primarily to the litigation attorneys, including but not limited to coordinating and scheduling meetings, managing and updating calendars, amending and maintaining metrics and litigation reports/charts/summaries, organizing and maintaining all litigation files, including current, closed and archived files. Coordinates and assists with remote signature and notary services using DocuSign. Organizes and assembles records, files and documents for the UT System Office of General Counsel (OGC), the Office of the Attorney General, outside defense counsel, and other state agencies. Provides any and all administrative support and backup to the Legal Program Manager, as needed. Organizes, assembles records, and coordinates with the OGC and Development Office on Estate Notices and Orders. Organize, assembles records and coordinates with UT Police - Houston on Expunction Orders. Provides administrative support to miscellaneous matters handled by the Deputy Chief Legal Officer - Litigation. Manages and reconciles incoming legal bills and requests payments for mediations, expert witness fees, institutional settlements, and other litigation expenses. Attends various staff meetings and provides feedback and solutions for improvement of operations, enhancement of the Litigation Legal Services program infrastructure, and improvement of the quality of services provided by the Legal Services Department. Manages and supervises the maintenance of several litigation databases of all claims, lawsuits, settlements, and subpoenas. Manages information and prepares reports reflecting case status, litigation trends and patterns, required reports of monthly lawsuit Summary, quarterly and annual litigation metrics and other reports requested by regulatory agencies (DOE). Performs high level legal research projects for the litigation attorneys. Other Perform other duties as assigned and required.
