Director of Community Safety and Law Enforcement Collaboration The candidate will be representing the Division at firm CompStat, Ceasefire and School Safety Division meetings for all boroughs as well as other law enforcement meetings, to enhance the Division’s knowledge of crime patterns and trends, gang activity and anti-gang strategies, and ensure the Division is participating in those meetings and initiatives to the extent consistent with the goals and purpose of the Family Court Act. Attending Community Council meetings to provide coverage when boroughs are in need of assistance. Working with boroughs and units to address gun violence. Working with the Director of Juvenile Justice Analysis and Outcomes to review data to identify and address juvenile delinquency patterns. Developing citywide strategies for the Division’s community outreach initiative, with a focus on geographical areas with a high volume of juvenile delinquency. Coordinating borough community outreach efforts. Working closely with the Director of Advanced Litigation Strategies and Trials to inform major case practice and develop trainings for staff with law enforcement personnel. Coordinating the Division’s citywide incorporation of the Raise the Age law enforcement procedures of blind and double blind identification procedures, videotaped interrogations as well as body-worn camera evidence, social media and internet evidence including intelligence surrounding the dark web and other issues affecting the practice. Collaborating with the Director of Advanced Litigation Strategies and Trials and the Director of Raise the Age Strategy and Planning on the coordination and expansion of the Division’s response to NYPD Juvenile Crime Desk notifications and other on-call responses pursuant to Raise the Age. Conducting trainings for law enforcement on juvenile justice issues and participating as a presenter in the NYPD Police Academy, District Attorney, federal, state and local law enforcement trainings.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have substantial relevant experience by September of 2018, and a demonstrated knowledge of and experience in juvenile delinquency practice and / or criminal law. Should have admission to the NYS Bar. Should preferably have 10+ years of experience in juvenile delinquency practice and /or criminal law.
